Google’s opinion on Microsoft’s offer to buyout Yahoo
Google Inc. has apparently attacked Microsoft Corp.’s bid to acquire Yahoo Inc. calling it, in the words of Jeffry Bartash and Morning Zhou writing for Marketwatch, “an effort to extend its software monopoly to the Internet”.
Google executive David Drummond has made a statement to the effect that a Microsoft acquisition of Yahoo could undermine open competition on the Internet. In a blog post Drummond wrote that Microsoft “frequently sought to establish proprietary monopolies — and then leverage its dominance into new, adjacent markets.” He also brought up the question of whether Microsoft could “now attempt to exert the same sort of inappropriate and illegal influence over the Internet that it did with the PC.”
